It was in 1960 that Seiko embarked on a company-wide endeavor to develop a “world-class stopwatch,” with the aim of having it become the official timekeeper for international competitions. After three years of trial and error, a mechanical stopwatch for sporting competitions was completed. In 1964, the company developed 36 types and 1,278 individual timing devices for international competitions. Through this effort, Seiko further cultivated its technical and design capabilities.
