The launch of the Speedmaster

A series of watches designed by world-renowned designers. The model in this photo is the SSBA022, which featured a rotary switch on the bezel.

Launched in 1983, the Speedmaster series consisted of the world's first analog quartz chronographs and digital watches. The SSAY068 features an innovative button design, in which the buttons can only be pressed directly from the top and bottom, to prevent accidental pressing of the buttons with the back of the hand during intense driving. The SSAY048 is asymmetrical for easy use while driving, with the center of the case offset to the right. The buttons are also large and designed for easy operation. The SSBA022 has a rotary switch on the bezel for mode switching. The design is composed of a flush surface that leads gently from the bezel to the case. The green colored surface is a combination of thermal spray and Teflon coating. The SSBA018 has a long belt that can also be wrapped around the handlebars of a motorcycle. The designer was inspired by airplane seat belts.
