Another luxury watch that takes a different path
from Grand Seiko.King Seiko

Although offered at a lower price range than Grand Seiko, it was still a luxury watch priced above the starting salary of a government official at the time.

The flat dial allowed a beautiful "sunray finish" to be applied to the smooth surface.

King Seiko was created in 1961 by refining the movement used in the Cronos. The lugs used a design in which the surface along the outer circumference wraps around to the tip, giving the watch a linear and powerful silhouette; the five-facet hour and minute hands and the flat surface of the indexes also give the watch a sense of power. While most watch dials of the time were curved and bombe-shaped, the dial of the King Seiko is flat with a beautiful sunray finish, preempting the methods used today. The case back is decorated with a crest mark in the shape of a distinctive shield motif.
