In 1986, ASDA (All Seiko Designers Association) was formed by roughly 160 designers from three companies: Seiko Epson, Seiko Electronics Industry, and Seikosha (all current company names at that time). ASDA launched the Seiko Creative Time Pieces design exhibition in 1987 as a way to create a place for free creation. This independent activity and communication by in-house designers attracted the attention of the design industry and provided an opportunity for customers nationwide to become familiar with the Seiko Group's designs. Activities were carried out over a five-year period under the overall theme of "people, space, time, and feeling," and pursued the possibilities of design.
