A noteworthy watch:
the first domestically produced pocket watch
to be designated as a railroad watch.Seiko’s railroad watch

In the early days, transportation in Japan was largely supported by the railroads, and Seiko’s railroad watches supported the smooth operation of those railroads.

Due to the nature of railroad watches, the Arabic numerals on the dial were designed with a strong attention to legibility.

The dial design of the reproduction model is as faithful as possible to the original model.

In 1929, Seikosha’s Type 19 Pocket Watch was the first pocket watch to be designated as a railroad watch in Japan. This was the beginning of Seiko’s long history of railroad watches. In order for these watches to be set in the opening of the instrument panel at the driver’s seat of a train, the basic style and dimensions of the fob watch were retained, while the accuracy and legibility of the watches were continually evolved. In 1978, the company commercialized a quartz railroad watch (Series 75) to improve time accuracy, and later succeeded in greatly improving accuracy by enhancing anti-magnetic performance. In recognition of their design and performance, Seiko’s railroad watches were later awarded the 2013 Good Design Long Life Design Award by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion.
