Back when watches were still very high-priced, the mainstream watches were dress watches for business and social occasions. For men, round cases were the standard. As the trend toward larger watch sizes grew, new creations such as Marvel and Cronos appeared year by year. The technology of mechanical watches was improved through friendly competition between the factories in Kameido and Suwa. Case designs for women were mostly rectangular or almond-shaped, and slim, small, and dressy designs were favored. Leather straps were the mainstream for both men and women, but elastic bands were also available for bracelets, and it was often possible to change the watchband to one of your choice at the store.
