The base of Seiko’s watch design
expands with a global perspectiveDesigners' overseas offices

Beginning with Paris in 1975, overseas design bases opened in New York and other cities around the world.

In 1968, in anticipation of business globalization, the company began sending designers abroad on study tours and to jewelry schools in Italy. Then, in 1975, an office was opened in Paris as an overseas design base. Initially, the main focus was on watch market research and trend surveys, with concept and design proposals made capturing European trends, and gradually the overseas base began to function as a place for human resource development. In 1982, a design base was opened in New York, in 1987, a design institute was opened in Milan, and in 1989, a design office was opened in Hong Kong.
