A bold design inspired by submarine sonar appeals
to the adventurer.Seiko Time Sonar

This design, launched in 1976, was inspired by the image of submarine sonar displays, to appeal to mechanics enthusiasts.

The Seiko Time Sonar, introduced in 1976, was designed to resemble a submarine's sonar display, with a dial made of transparent plastic that allows the calendar disk to shine through. The case back was also made of transparent colored glass. The oscillating weight, which can be seen through the glass, is painted black, creating a sonar-like effect. At the time of its release, the model came with a compass attached to the bracelet, which created a sense of adventure. The case is a simple cylinder shape with no visible bracelet connection. The buttons and crown are also kept simple, complementing the tachymeter function of the dial ring and the dial.

The case back was also made of black colored glass. The rotating crown also had a black finish, creating a unique design not found anywhere else.
