The unique design that revolutionized
the concept of domestic watches.Marvel

The Marvel and its derivatives were loved by many Japanese at the time.

The large dial, sharp hands and indexes achieved a high degree of legibility.

The design was characterized by a regal look and feel, similar to that of the Grand Seiko watches that would come later.

The Marvel was launched in 1956 with the aim of creating a highly productive, accurate, and beautiful watch. Taking advantage of the trend toward larger case sizes, Seiko developed watches equipped with the Type 11 1/2 movement that was larger and more accurate than the Type 10 Super. Technical innovations such as a unique structure to compensate for misalignment of the stem hole and the special shape of the gears revolutionized domestically produced watches and became the foundation of Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking. The Marvel, with its high design quality, including highly legible hands and indexes, became a big hit throughout the 1960s. Many derivative products were created, including the high-end Lord Marvel and the automatic Gyro Marvel.
