In 1960, Grand Seiko was launched. As the number of suit-wearing office workers increased, thin watches that matched their outfits also became hot-selling items, and thin dress watches such as the Gold Feather became popular. The ability to perform precision finishing processes, such as molding and electroforming patterns on dials and improvements in case stamping, enabled diversification of designs. International competitions led to improvements in stopwatch technology and the evolution of chronograph watches. Sports watches equipped with chronographs became popular, especially among young baby boomers, and Seiko 5 Sports became a worldwide hit with its unprecedented coloring and design.
