This is where it all began.K. Hattori & Co.,
the starting point of Seiko, established 140 years ago.

K. Hattori & Co. was founded in December 1881 by Kintaro Hattori, who was 21 years old at the time. This store, which sold and repaired imported watches, was the origin of Seiko. The shop was located in Uneme-cho (present-day Ginza), Tokyo, near his parents’ home. He continued to take on challenges and strive diligently based on his principle of being “always one step ahead of the rest.” In 1887, six years after its establishment, K. Hattori & Co. moved into the main street of Ginza, the center of Japanese commerce, and in 1895, the company purchased a corner lot in Ginza 4-chome (the location of Seiko’s present-day Wako Store), where it built a 16-meter-high clock tower.
