A genuine adventure watch
used in the Arctic, Antarctic, and Everest. The Field Master, designed to perform in the extreme cold.

With its cold resistance, this was a monumental adventure watch that demonstrated Seiko’s resolve to take on the challenge of the polar regions.

The rotating bezel with its characteristic gouged surface was easy to operate even with gloves on.

To prevent frostbite, the case back was coated with 2mm polyurethane.

This model was Seiko's first attempt at the on-land “adventure watch” genre. The case back had a 2mm polyurethane coating to prevent frostbite, making it resistant to extreme cold weather. It was used in the three major polar regions of the Arctic, Antarctic, and Tibetan Plateau. The lightweight case is made of pure titanium and is equipped with a hybrid quartz movement that provides both digital and analog displays. An Emergency Signal Code is printed on the dial ring. This serves as a signal code that can be sent by a person seeking rescue to an aerial search party. The watch was packed with features that would make it a good companion for adventurers, such as a simple direction indicator that could calculate the direction by the angle between the bezel and the hour hand, an alarm function, a local time display function, and a reinforced anti-magnetic structure.
