A woman, like a flower, grows in her own time.
Tanaka: The LUKIA Grow collection, which began in 2023, imagines a woman as a flower, growing gracefully in time, and envisions her blossoming in beauty.
Kasai: Each year, the LUKIA Grow collection explores a unique theme. In 2024, the theme was Blossom, capturing the image of a woman blooming in her own unique way. And in 2025, the 30th anniversary of Lukia, the theme is Flower Garden—a celebration of individuality and diversity, where each woman can bloom in her own color and style. The story behind the collection is a wish that every woman who wears LUKIA Grow will grow with grace, blossom beautifully, and express her unique charm—just as flowers bloom in a rich array of colors.
Tanaka: Initially, we hadn’t planned on telling a continuing story. But the first year’s Grow theme received such a positive response that we felt inspired to build on it—so that the narrative of each timepiece could intertwine with the wearer’s own journey.
Ishii: One of the key features of the collection is its floral motif. Flowers offer endless possibilities, making it easy to explore a wide range of designs. I felt that through this approach, we could create timepieces that resonate with many different women—allowing each one to feel, “This is my watch.”
Subtly sweet yet mature: Colored lily
Kasai: Tanaka-san and Ishii-san, you were both in charge of Grow in its first year, weren’t you?
Ishii: Yes, that’s right. For Grow, we chose the colored lily as one of the key motifs. We considered several flower options, but we were particularly drawn to the lily’s mature and graceful elegance.

Kasai: SSVW205 has exactly the kind of coloring that makes you say, “This is it—this is the colored lily!” It truly captures that image, doesn’t it?

Ishii: Yes, it does. The dial has a white base, with a soft yellow gradation at the center to evoke the tones of a colored lily. I think the colors are subtle and versatile—easy to coordinate with a variety of outfits.
Tanaka: For the other model, SSQW072, which also takes the colored lily as its motif, we wanted to try something new—a shade we’d never used before in the LUKIA Grow collection. So we experimented with a pink-brown dial paired with white mother-of-pearl. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise and was a big hit among the women in our office.

Ishii: The edges of the case are boldly crafted in pink gold. Surprisingly, this doesn’t feel overly dainty; instead, it conveys a sense of refined calmness that’s quite refreshing. The coloring is unusual for Lukia, but I believe it’s a beautiful design.
Tanaka: It seems to have been a proposal for a more mature use of pink gold, aimed at those who might otherwise have felt that such a color wouldn’t suit their age. It became quite popular.
Ishii: In terms of details, we added subtle lines in the upper left and lower right of the dial to evoke the delicate lines of flower petals. The shape of the crown is also designed to resemble a flower blooming from a bud.

Kasai: I found the crown design to be truly innovative. It perfectly embodies the essence of Grow.
Tanaka: In fact, I recently bought a Lukia watch for my niece. It was a tonneau model from the Grow line. I would be so happy if she grows up wearing it and becomes her own unique person.
Fresh and luxurious: Peony
Tanaka: For 2024, our design theme was Blossom. From the beginning, I envisioned a freshly blooming peony flower. The model SSQW081J is one that truly symbolizes this vision.

Kasai: Indeed, the case has a softly rounded shape, the bracelet opens at the tips, and the font is more angular and expressive than in the Grow design. You can find elements reminiscent of the peony woven throughout the details.

Tanaka: For the dial, we adopted a “drop dial” shaped like a plump drop of water. We have been working with the related departments on development for this purpose, and I am glad that this led to the creation of a product that embodies our theme.
Ishii: If the SSQW081J is a peony blooming in the morning light, then the SSWA002J, developed with a more jewelry-like aesthetic, is like a peony unfolding in the soft glow of the evening light.

Kasai: I really like its compact size—something only an analog quartz watch can offer.

Tanaka: This time, we’ve introduced a lineup that focuses on small, elegant shapes and beautifully crafted dials with analog quartz, offering a more jewelry-like feel. This expansion has also broadened the Lukia collection, which has primarily featured solar models until now.
Blessed elements that illuminate key points in life
Tanaka: For 2025, the 30th anniversary of the brand, the theme is Flower Garden. I had envisioned this concept since the previous year when we chose Blossom as our theme.
Ishii: I felt that the idea of “each woman blooming in her own way and becoming a flower garden” was perfect for celebrating the 30th anniversary. The SSQW091 (available only in Japan) is a symbolic embodiment of that story.

Tanaka: The diamond base, positioned at 6 o’clock, is designed in the shape of a flower, and the silhouettes of various flowers adorn the dial in hidden printing, creating the impression of flowers rising up from the face of the dial. The underlying theme of the dial reflects the story of Lukia’s 30th anniversary and the brand’s continued blossoming journey from here on.

Ishii: Other 30th anniversary elements are subtly integrated throughout. In the limited edition SSQW094J, three butterflies (two positioned at 6 o’clock and one hidden above the calendar) flutter across the dial. A heart also appears in the calendar display when the 30th day arrives. This was a design proposal we never expected to be realized, as it’s an area we don’t usually delve into.
Kasai: The SSWA012J draws inspiration from Lukia’s long-selling model, the SSVW214J, which has been in production for over 10 years.

Tanaka: Yes, this design is based on the solar model that has enjoyed great popularity since its debut in 2011. It’s easy to read and brings a little joy every time you glance at it. We’ve recreated it in a mini size, with the jewel-like charm that only quartz can offer. It’s part of our Happy Collection.

Kasai: The dial base features a soft, pale tone and a blooming pattern that brings both brilliance and texture. Diamonds at the 1 and 7 o’clock positions add a special touch of charm. The dial base, indexes, and crown are all designed in the image of a four-leaf clover—a symbol of good fortune.

Continuing growth, for women and for Lukia
Kasai: I feel that Lukia is a brand often encountered at key turning points in life. Having been around for 30 years, we frequently hear stories like, “My mother used to wear Lukia, and it left a strong impression on me,” or “My mother and I both wear Lukia.” I hope it becomes a timeless brand—something passed down from parent to child, shared between mothers and daughters, and cherished across generations.
Tanaka: The advertisement that inspired me to join Seiko portrayed the watches in such a mature and sophisticated light. It made me realize that owning a watch was a symbol of growing up. I want to continue delivering that same sense of admiration and excitement to everyone who picks up a Lukia watch in the future.
Ishii: My mother actually bought the first Lukia watch I ever designed when I became a designer. But she hardly wore it—she kept making different excuses! One of my personal goals is to create a watch that someone like my mother would truly enjoy wearing.
Tanaka: That’s wonderful. A watch is something you wear on your wrist, but lately, I’ve come to feel that it’s also something you wear on your heart. With Lukia offering a variety of collections, I’d be so happy if everyone could find a piece that speaks to their heart and becomes a lifelong companion.
