Specialized Watch for Club DJs

The “infinity mirror” technique places mirrors opposite each other to create the illusion of an object being endlessly replicated. This effect is often seen in displays and gadgets in commercial spaces. I wanted to explore a new type of watch that incorporates this trick. So, who would be the ideal person to wear such a watch? The first person that came to mind was a club DJ, who skillfully manipulates the turntables and energizes the crowd.

The challenge was to create a watch with a depth of approximately 1 cm, while incorporating an infinity mirror into its structure. After extensive trial and error with the shape and materials, I succeeded in crafting a timepiece that marks the passage of time in a truly magical way. The interplay of light in various colors and textures creates a three-dimensional effect. Gazing into the watch feels almost like being drawn into another dimension.

Just as each club DJ has their own distinct style, I designed this watch as a companion that enhances the performance of DJs whose style aligns with the watch. This watch features a unique design, yet it is built from a combination of elements typically found in regular mechanical watches. This unexpected contrast is another aspect that I’d like you to notice.

Surprisingly, there's a profound connection between DJs and time. Performance times are pre-set, and DJs often have to keep track of how long they have left. Yet, if they’re too focused on checking the time during a set, it can be distracting, so most DJs discreetly glance at the watch. Given this unique relationship between DJs and time, I found the design intriguing in several ways.
DJ parties are different from everyday life—often extraordinary and vibrant. The watch captures the unique atmosphere of clubs, with their darkness and black lights, perfectly aligning with the DJ's world. Additionally, the mirror finish on the inner dial and surface creates a captivating visual effect, using a combination of reflective surfaces to evoke a sense of mystery. This feature is sure to become a conversation starter at DJ parties. The watch is also relatively large, with glow-in-the-dark elements that make it easy to read—a crucial feature for DJ equipment used in dim environments. Interestingly, the dial subtly marks time starting from 6 p.m. and ending at 5 a.m., which feels strikingly realistic.
