06TISSE our time

A gender-neutral watch that reflects the diversity of our nature.

The original model, before the rebirth of this watch, was the ladies’ watch TISSE, launched in 1984. When we went out to city locations with many young people and conducted a survey, one of the current fashion trends we found was the “loose-fitting” street casual style that was popular in the 1990s and 2000s. If this is the case, then perhaps the so-called “close-fitting” type of watch might be a little too tight. In thinking about this, TISSE’s loose-fitting style came to mind. We thought that the watch’s design, which deviates somewhat from the common sense of a watch, would match the current times.

A “small watch” produces a feminine look. Therefore, we decided to create a watch that looks like a bracelet. The result is something that can be enjoyed as a fashion item by both men and women alike.

The characteristics of TISSE’s design were the granular feel of a series of pieces of the same shape and the loose fit of the watch that wraps loosely around the wrist. During the course of development, we realized that if it were perceived as a “small watch,” the stereotype would make it seem like a ladies’ watch. Therefore, we gave it a rebirth as a more bracelet-like design by making slight changes to the size and shape of the pieces, while maintaining the characteristics of the original. We wanted to express the pure charm of this jewelry watch, beyond the conventional stereotypes of “men’s or ladies’” watches.

The piece that is most visible to the wearer is composed of facet surfaces that sparkle, and will surely lift the spirits of those who wear it.

When worn on the wrist, the design gives different impressions when viewed from the 12 o’clock side, which is clearly visible to others, and from the 6 o’clock side, which is clearly visible to the wearer.

The dial is simple, with only two hands and four hour markers. It is a flat, gender-neutral design.

The word “diversity” was another key word for the rebirth. Young people today, those known as “digital natives,” express their diverse selves in both the real and virtual worlds. As a symbol of this, we designed the 12 o’clock side, which can be seen clearly by others, and the 6 o’clock side, which can be seen clearly by oneself, to have differing forms. The idea is that every one of the multi-sided segments with different brightness represents a person’s individuality. We hope you will enjoy the embodiment of a contemporary feel and the various ideas that went into making this a watch that can be worn by people of all genders.

A watch tells not only the time, but also the “richness of the heart.” As designers and as members of the younger generation, our hope is for the wearer to experience such moments.
