03Shikakuro (Square Chronograph)

Which square chronograph will win your heart?

The model I chose to give a new life to is a square chronograph launched in 1971. I chose this model for two reasons: it is a very iconic design and a personal favorite of mine, and the self-expression and diversity represented by the hippie culture of the 1970s is a point that is relevant today. While keeping the strong iconic square shape, I developed variations in the shape of the case and strap or bracelet, as well as in the materials and coloring. I designed my creation with the hopes that people can feel the joy of finding their favorite variations!

The self-expression and diversity of the 1970s might be interpreted today as “the joy of finding one’s favorites.” With this in mind, a wide variety of cases were designed.

In addition to the color and material, I would like to draw your attention to the watch’s “wearability” as well. The key points are size and visual appeal. The original model before its rebirth was equipped with a calendar at the 3 o’clock position, but I intentionally altered the movement to present only the chronograph function.

Another highlight is the combination of the modern, bold alumite (anodized aluminum) color of the outer casing and the black of the inner case body, which was not present in the original model.

The dial is designed with simple chronograph functions, an easy-to-read and effective color scheme, and a compact, easy-to-wear size in mind.

The outer casing and strap, which give the wearer the freedom to attach and detach them as they choose, are designed with the wish that the wearer will pursue their own personal favorite look.

The elation of finding a favorite object remains the same, no matter the period. I hope that something about Shikakuro, such as the contour of the case, the design of the dial, or the range of various materials and colorings, will touch the hearts of many people. I also hope that this whole exhibition, not just this model, will be an opportunity for everyone to find a new favorite watch.

You can enjoy easily customizing this watch. This model allows you to freely combine the various elements and enjoy the watch in your own way.
